High-voltage grid or no high-voltage grid
The diagrams for Aalborg Denmark, Salzburg Austria, Cairo Egypt and Kampala Uganda show at a glance where the answer is yes or no.
The high-voltage grid is used to transport electricity over long distances. There are two reasons for this:
- Geographical features for wind and water
- Very efficient central large-scale technology
There is more wind in the North Sea than in Bavaria. Austria has about as much electricity from hydropower as the much larger Germany. In the past, the centralized large-scale technology counted on the rail connection to bring two freight trains full of coal to the coal-fired power plant every day.

Stupidest advertisement of 1978
|
On November 5, 1978, a referendum was held in Austria on the commissioning of the Zwentendorf nuclear power plant. 1,606,308 people, or 50.47 percent of the votes cast, voted against commissioning (1,576,839 people voted in favor of commissioning).
At the time, the pro-nuclear power plant party ran the advertising campaign "Without Zwentendorf, the lights go out". I felt so provoked by this that I voted against Zwentendorf. "Our demand for electricity is increasing, without Zwentendorf we would have to burn this freight train full of coal every day" and then show a video of wagon after wagon full of coal, showing everything in the coal except carbon, that would have given Zwentendorf a 2/3 majority.

Efficiency records in thermal power generation

Siemens announces a combined cycle power plant with 64.18% LHV value efficiency. Methane has 13.9 kWh LHV value per kg, but 15.4 kWh HHV value. This leaves 57.9% efficiency of the HHV value.
A 200 kW methanol generator, on the other hand, only achieves 36% without using the hot exhaust gases. With simple utilization, this can be increased to 42%. A somewhat more complex 46% is possible.

Setting up a purely solar power supply
|
This is always a mixture of highly efficient batteries and cheap long-term storage via Power to X and reconversion. Centralized large-scale technology offers a higher level of efficiency for Power to X and reconversion, but the high-voltage grid has to be paid for.
Here are 4 typical situations calculated with 50% power to methanol and 46% for the generator. 8 different battery configurations were calculated with 10 differently dimensioned power-to-methanol systems.
From a modest harvest of 860 kWh/kW peak, only 381 kWh 365/24 electricity remains. Here it is clear: use centralized large-scale technology, use other forms of energy such as wind, high-voltage grid necessary and economical.
One is the gross yield, the other is what is left over in net 365/24 electricity. From Aalborg, Denmark, to Salzburg, Austria, there is 23% more 365/24 electricity.
Sunny, sunny and sunny again, why a new high-voltage grid anywhere when decentralized generation delivers such results? It's like buying locally for €5 or by mail order for €4 plus €4 shipping costs.
In Cairo, Egypt, the inclination of the earth's axis is almost the only reason for long-term storage. In Kampale, Uganda, on the other hand, it is different cloud cover. There is significantly less gross yield, but this is partly compensated for by a better gross/net ratio. Compared to Salzburg, 55% more gross yield, but 131% more 365/24 net yield. There are significantly more batteries installed in the configuration and less power to.

Production and transportation costs
|
You can live and drive anywhere, but where to put energy-intensive industry? For the customer, it is always a mixture of energy and transportation costs. For example, a cement plant 50 km away can supply a customer in Germany more cheaply than a cement plant 5,000 km away in a very sunny region.
There is a village near the equator along an important runway with no power supply. Electricity can be generated so cheaply on a decentralized basis that a high-voltage line makes no sense at all and is an extreme waste of money.

Still no statement from Porsche

How do you permanently ruin your reputation? For a few days now, it has been impossible to start a Porsche built in 2013 or later in Russia. Where is a statement from Porsche on this? I couldn't find one in Google. I found no indication that Porsche is investigating the incident and helping the customers affected. Is it state-ordered sabotage or just a chain of unfavorable events? Porsche's silence is deafening. After the incident, who will dare to buy a Porsche in a country whose government could fall out of favor with the German government?
US government vs. German government, could it happen that suddenly all Porsches in the USA come to a standstill? Let's think of a scenario where the US government blocks all US technology including SWIFT for Antifa supporters. What could be a counterattack? Why take such a risk? Without full disclosure and help for those affected, Porsche is a dead brand in all those countries that the German government doesn't like or might not like in the coming decades.

The planetary restoration mentality

Planetary cleanup back to 350 ppm CO2 means around 47,000 TWh of electricity to filter 1 ppm CO2 from the atmosphere and recycle it into carbon and oxygen. Who can afford that? Only a rich human race, 10 billion people in prosperity can do it. One million km² of energy-optimized settlement areas alone should contribute 150,000 TWh for the necessary electricity for world-wide prosperity and planetary restoration.
